Sun School's in-school workshops get students outside, learning under the sun. Haley's passion for education and nature converge in dynamic workshops that bring the Ontario science curriculum to life. Through hands-on experiences and interactive lessons, Sun School fosters a deeper connection to the environment and the world around the students. Workshops are tailored to all grade levels and abilities to make sure the programming is accessible for all.

Mission Statement

At Sun School, we are dedicated to fostering a deep connection between children and adults with the natural world through outdoor learning experiences. Our mission is to provide meaningful opportunities for youth to engage with nature conservation and environmental appreciation, equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and passion to become future stewards of the planet. We are committed to creating an inclusive and accessible environment that empowers people, young and old, from all backgrounds.
Sun School offers a variety of programs, including in-school workshops, local events, summer day camps, and seniors programming, designed to engage individuals of all ages in the beauty and importance of nature. Through mentorship and hands-on support, we nurture personal growth, foster leadership, and build strong relationships between youth and conservation professionals.

Sun School's Commitment to Paying a Livable Wage

At Sun School, we are committed to valuing our employees because we believe that when people are paid fairly, they’re more empowered to contribute fully, grow professionally, and show up as their authentic selves. Becoming a living wage employer was a natural extension of our commitment to equity, inclusion, and community care. Fair pay is not just about meeting basic needs - it’s about dignity, respect, and creating a workplace culture where everyone feels valued.
Sun School is proud to state that we are a Living Wage Employer registered through the Ontario Living Wage Network.

Sun School's Commitment to Anti-Racism

At Sun School, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment where all individuals, regardless of race, ethnicity, or background, feel valued and respected. We recognize that systemic racism exists within society, and as an organization, we are dedicated to addressing these disparities and creating opportunities for meaningful change.
Our commitment to anti-racism is woven into the fabric of our programs, initiatives, and daily practices. We aim to provide a safe space for youth, families, and staff from all backgrounds to come together and engage in outdoor learning experiences. We understand the importance of representation, cultural competence, and diversity in shaping the way we interact with the natural world and with each other.
  1. Inclusive Programming: We prioritize ensuring our programs are accessible to children and families from diverse backgrounds. This includes the design of the workshops being in-school workshops to reduce field trip busing costs. Considerations have been made for the pricing structure of the workshops to ensure that schools in low-socioeconomic areas can still have programming come to their school. In addition, making sure that all activities are culturally inclusive and respectful.

  2. Staff Training & Ongoing Education: All staff participate in anti-racism training and ongoing education to better understand racial equity, cultural sensitivity, and how to support youth from marginalized communities. We are committed to creating a learning environment where staff can grow in their understanding of how to address and dismantle racism.

Sun School is proud to state that we have been accepted as an employer with Nature Canada's Work to Grow program.
"Work to Grow helps racialized youth connect and build careers in nature. Nature Canada is using the term "racialized" to encompass Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) who face systemic barriers because of their perceived or actual cultural identities. We acknowledge that people’s identities go beyond what is visible, that the language we use matters and that words can hurt. We are committed to respecting each person’s individual experiences, cultural identity, and dignity."
